About

What is Dragon Boating?

Dragon Boating is a fast and furious, paddle driven water sport that originated in China
over 2000 years ago.
The modern sport sees crews of up to 20 paddlers (10 for small boats), plus a sweep
and drummer, train and race in fiberglass boats with decorative Chinese dragon heads
and tails.
Competitions (known as regattas) are held all over the world offering international,
continental, national and local competition.

Dragon Boating Offers:
• Whole body fitness
• Easy to learn actions that are repeated
• Fun, team environment where everyone works together
• Opportunities to race and compete
• A non-contact, safe sport

Hawkesbury River Dragons (HRD) is our local dragon boat club based in Brooklyn,
Northern Sydney on the beautiful Hawkesbury River. The club was established in
January 2011 and has since increased our membership to 65 active members.
HRD welcomes paddlers of all walks of life, combining a competitive spirit with a
community atmosphere.

Our club is made up of members located from Pennant Hills to all the way to
Killarney Vale. We meet twice a week to train on the water, and we
participate in competitive Dragon Boating competitions across Australia. We also
organise club outings to meet socially with our families and loved ones and stay
connected as a club. We’re very lucky that our club is a true representation of the
beautiful and diverse community that we live in.
